Where we work
The key challenges in this region include shortfalls in drugs, diagnostics and therapeutic food at treatment centres; poor infrastucture and service access by at-risk groups; inadequate VL mapping and surveillance; and knowledge gaps relating to transmission. Some regions also have significant security challenges due to conflict.
There has been good progress towards VL elimination as a public health problem in the South Asia region - indeed Nepal has already reached its elimination target. The KalaCORE strategic focus is to support these countries in keeping transmssion levels low so that the target can be achieved and maintained.
